Hiking Trails
CamRock County Park offers a great selection of trails for hiking and biking. These trails are ideal for beginners and more advanced riders alike.
The shady, level trails wind through the park and follow Koshkonong Creek. There’s plenty to see along the way and a playground near the parking area.
Located between Cambridge and Rockdale, this 422-acre park features three shelters, play areas, and a beautiful restored prairie. It also has a canoe/kayak launch, cross-country ski trails, and a sledding hill.
The trails are a mixture of wide and fast-flowing open fields, wooded single-track, and advanced single-track. A popular loop is the 6.2-mile Area 3 Trail which is considered one of the best off-road trails in the area.
Mountain Biking Trails
CamRock County Park has a little bit of everything when it comes to mountain biking. Its 422-acre park is located along Koshkonong Creek between Cambridge and Rockdale in eastern Dane County. It boasts three shelters, play equipment, hiking trails, a canoe/kayak launch, and an impressive array of mountain bike trails.
The best part is that all the trails are well marked and well maintained, so you don’t have to spend your entire day searching for a single trail. There are also numerous vantage points from which to enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and meadows.
The most impressive trails are a mix of fast and flowing singletrack and smooth gravel paths. The best bet is to start at one of the many trailheads. Besides the big wigs, there is also a local’s favorite, the Beer Run which has everything you would expect from a brew-themed MTB trail: air, step-downs, and berms. Kayaking Trails
Koshkonong Creek flows through CamRock County Park which offers three shelters, play equipment, hiking trails, a canoe/kayak launch, mountain bike trails, and cross-country ski trails. The park also boasts a sledding hill and prairie restorations.
CamRock County Park is a 422-acre park situated along the banks of Koshkonong Creek between the Village of Cambridge and the historic village of Rockdale. The park boasts three separate use areas each with its own shelters, play equipment, and hiking trails.
For kayaking enthusiasts, CamRock County Park has some of the best kayaking trails in the area. Koshkonong Creek runs through the park and the pristine waterway is perfect for tossing a kayak or canoe in.
The park is maintained by a crew of dedicated volunteers and the riparian woods are often cut back to remove invasive species like the Emerald Ash Borer. The creek is also key to the survival of many area wildlife and replenishes Lake Koshkonong.
Natural Playground
Located along Koshkonong Creek between the Village of Cambridge and the historic Village of Rockdale, CamRock County Park is home to three shelters, play equipment, hiking trails, a canoe/kayak launch, mountain bike trails, cross-country ski trails, and a prairie restoration. It’s no surprise that it is one of the most popular outdoor destinations in Dane County and that it ranks as one of our top ten parks by population.
The aforementioned natural playground (near Shelter #2) is one of the most interactive, fun, and exciting places to play in the area. Designed by GRG Playscapes, it uses elements and textures found in the surrounding forest to create an interactive environment that engages minds of all ages.
